The ice cream craze that's spreading like wildfire

I'd never heard of combining salt and caramel until I was the lucky recipient of a Purim basket of homemade goodies by my dear friend. Tasting her creation almost made this shiksa a convert. I sank into a deep depression when all the salt caramel squares were gone.

Two years later, I'm strolling down the grocery aisles at my local Target, and what do I see but Archer Farms (Target's premium house brand) Sea Salt Pretzel Caramel ice cream (no link available -- you'll have to check out your local Target).

I take it home and hide it in the back of the freezer. It's hidden from everyone but me, and I'm able to make the carton last 5 whole days. The flavors -- caramel, chocolate, vanilla and salty pretzels -- blend orgasmically in the mouth. I was so overjoyed I was able to overlook the sogginess of the pretzel parts.

My weekly treks to Target were halted when I found that both grocery chains near me, Safeway and King Soopers (Kroger), also carried store-brand versions of sea salt caramel ice creams (called, elegantly, fleur de sel). Both equally delectable and both with chocolate truffles and sans soggy pretzels.

Just sayin'. If you're looking for an indulgence alternative to champagne later this week, I highly recommend the latest ice cream craze.

P.S. I'm deliberately omitting references to nutrition labels. La-la-la....I can't hear you.
